VIDA offers many free programs and events throughout the year.  Check our News Updates and Calendar.

ESL (English as a Second Language)

  • Over 1,000 participants since 2006
  • 30 weeks of instruction
  • 90 min courses taught (beginners & intermediate) 3 times a week, Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays.
  • Wednesday conversational classes with English speaking volunteers.

Basic Computer Classes

  • Keyboarding 
  • Introduction to computers
  • Internet searches and email accounts
  • Creating, saving, and printing documents
  • Tools for practicing languages online

Community Garden

With the participation of Topeka Common Ground, KSU Extension Office, master gardeners, church youth groups, VIDA families and volunteers.

Homework / Learning Center / Nursery

  • About 500 children enrolled since 2006
  • Nurturing environment for children of all ages
  • Nursery is an essential service for participating parents
  • Computers and tutors for school age children

Spiritual and Family Care

  • Bible study in Spanish and counseling through SalvArmy
  • Help with needs of new immigrants
  • Assist with various individual and family needs such as food distribution, job search, etc.

Other Free Services

  • Nutrition classes
  • Computer lab and basic computer class
  • Art exposure classes for children
  • Back to School fair
  • Interpreting and translating
  • Advocacy and referral

Our Mission
VIDA means LIFE in Spanish. VIDA Ministry is a non-profit organization supported by twelve Presbyterian Churches of Topeka area. VIDA’s mission is to provide hope and services to our newer neighbors, the Latino community in Topeka. We provide programs and activities run by volunteers such as the ESL classes with free homework center and nursery for children. See other programs we offer.

Partners
VIDA ministry partners at various levels with local organizations like Salvation Army, United Way, Topeka Public Schools, KSU Extension Office, Department of Children and Families, Topeka Common Ground, Safe Streets and others. VIDA board members dedicate their talents to guiding the organization to serve the Latino community.
